kykNET Silwerskerm Awards: Nominees announced in the film categories

The celebration of the Afrikaans film industry over the past few days — with the screening of short films, documentaries and feature films at the kykNET Silwerskerm Festival in Camps Bay — reaches its climax on Saturday 22 August when the winners in various categories are announced.

Among the ten short films, it is Twee persent with its old-world charm, the intimate drama Genoeg, and Wag ’n bietjie with its healthy dose of dark humour that lead the way, with six, five and four nominations respectively. Among the five short documentary films, Pappa Kitsch and Die grond onthou take the lead with three nominations each.

With only three feature films competing in the competition, nominations were not announced in most categories. Only winners will be named in the following categories: best sound design, best original soundtrack, best makeup and hairstyling, best costumes, best production design, best editing, best screenplay, best cinematography and best direction. There are, however, nominations in the categories for best actor and actress, as well as best supporting actress. The category for best supporting actor was dropped this year.

The majority of the awards will be presented on Saturday morning at an event at The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay, while the winners of the categories best feature film, best actor and actress, and best female supporting performer will be announced on Saturday evening — together with the winners of the TV categories — at a glamorous gala event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
