kykNET announces the TV nominations for the first Silwerskerm Festival Awards for Film and Television
kykNET’s Silwerskerm Festival in Camps Bay usually concludes with a glamorous awards ceremony where the festival’s best films are honoured. This year’s spectacular event will be twice the size and even more dazzling, as kykNET – for the very first time – will award Silwerskerm Festival trophies to the actors, presenters and personalities who’ve provided exceptional television entertainment between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023.
Television viewers will be able to experience every moment of the first, fabulous kykNET Silwerskerm Festival Awards for Film and Television. The gala event, which takes place on Saturday 26 August at the CTICC in Cape Town, will be recorded for television broadcast on the following evening (Sunday 27 August) at 20:00 on kykNET, DStv channel 144.
The CTICC’s 1200-seat auditorium will be packed with the most famous faces and biggest names on our screens, resplendent in their finery. Between the gnawing nerves of winners being announced and the tears of joy typical of an awards ceremony, the country’s top Afrikaans musicians will light up the stage.
“It is high time that, in addition to the excellent work in film, we also celebrate outstanding contributions on our kykNET channels,” says Waldimar Pelser, Director: M-Net Premium Channels. “Without their exceptional talent, we wouldn’t be able to keep our viewers glued to the box. It is a privilege to thank them with the nominations and awards.”
The TV section of the Silwerskerm Festival Awards for Film and Television covers a total of 20 categories, with an additional category for lifetime contributions. The legends who will be honoured are the beloved actor Cedwyn Joel, presenter Freek Robinson, who set and maintained the highest standards in news media over the past 40 years, and producer André Scholtz, who has been making films for more than half a century. Scholtz’s award will be presented on Saturday morning at the Silwerskerm Festival’s Technical Awards in Camps Bay.
Though an independent panel of experts will determine the winners of the Silwerskerm Festival Awards for Film and Television, kykNET viewers can have their say in two categories: TV moment of the year and Personality of the year.
To vote, visit the kykNET website and select your choice. Viewer votes close on 31 July 2023.
